Materials: MDF, Japanese washi paper, Wire
Design Rationale:
The flat lamp is easily made by setting the wood frame and placing the flat shade inside. The shade is made up by Japanese Washi paper and wire. For it is a postal present, I was thinking that give some surprise to the receiver. The shade was packed like a present, and it popped up after releasing the ties. The reason of chosing Japanese paper was that light is gentle and soft reflecting through the paper. It gives people a relaxing feeling. Besides, the paper is beautiful even after crumpled.

I kind of like your design, especially because of the aesthetic qualities. I was wondering why you didn't make the paper higher... why does it only half of the wood frame tall? and when they opened it in class, it wasn't very stable (I think the paper can't be stuck on to the wood frame), so you should really look into that....
ReplyDeletethe Japanese washi paper is so sepecial to use to be a part of a flat lamp.and the color you choosed ,black and white, are pretty and simple.however,i thought is it better if you design this lamp a little bit smaller which could much more suitable for holding a candle.
ReplyDeleteI was really impressed with how you made the lamp (paper part) expandable, the folding and wire that ran through it was very clever. Two problems were that it looked a little unfinished because the frame was too large for the lamp and secondly it just unfortunately was not very stable. However well presented.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the idea. It is a very good idea to send as a present, and amazingly flat packed! I think the prototype was abit disappointing, and the design would have been very unified with the 'paper' lamp surrounding extending up to the top of the outer frame.

The product is pretty. It is interesting to use MDF, Japanese washi paper and Wire together. This combination is really novelty. As the flat lamp, this kind of design looks classical and romantic.
