Project 1: Experience enrichment

MOOD BOARD

POSTER

Target market:
housewifes, middle-class restaurants

Aim:
my design of condiment container is to reduce the many condiments' containers on the restaurants' tables, as well as household kitchen wares. It can also be a dining decoration for restaurants and family party.

Design:
The design was simply a flower shape powder-condiments shaker sitting on a glass bottle containing liquid condiments like vinegar or soy source. It looks like a vase on the table. Moreover, the shaker is big and comfortable to hold and shake. The color of the shaker are variable, and it's indicatable as pepper for black(most pepole's impression), salt for white and spice for red.

Four pleasure analysis:

Physio pleasure:
- large shaker, comfortable to hold
- look elegant for decoration

Phyco plesure:
- Ceramic flower shaker and glass bottle give smooth feelings to users
- interesting shape combining the condiment sets pleases the customers in restaurants
- restaurants enhance customers’ experience and also benefit from this

Socio pleasure:
- talking point with friends
- show high quality life when using it at dinner party or picnic
- restaurants show respect to their customers and have a good reputation

Ideo pleasure:
- table at restaurants look neater for less condiments’ containers
- materials are enviornmental friendly

I like the central design idea of creating a flower-like condiments holder. Very often the salt, pepper and spice jars seem to be after-thoughts to an otherwise elegant table setting.

I also like the general curves of the flower-head. It seems comfortable. However, I am concerned that the tapered base may make people confused as to which way is up. As shakers are typically broader at the base.

At present only one shaker can sit on the glass bottle. This means you would need two or three of these on a table (salt, pepper, and maybe chillis). I think this may start to crowd the table. Perhaps you could adjust it so that two or three flower-heads sit on only glass jar.

  2. I quite like the simple and creative design. I appreciate your idea to combine pepper and salt as a whole and make the shape of your ‘bloom’ like a vase standing on the table. And also, the idea to use different colors to help people distinguish pepper and salt is thoughtful. But I think you should think more about how to avoid the spill out by some accidents and what if we want to add more seasonings.

  3. i love these shakers they are a great idea and would surely look better on a table in a restaurant then some of those other shakers they have. the only thing i would be worried about is whether i would be able to properly grip the shakers while shaking them onto my food because of the small area to put your hand

  4. i like the design of this shaker. I think that it will be good and fun to place it on the restaurant table which will create a different picture and mood. However I think the size of it is abit too big compare to the other shakers. Also, if it needs to be place with a glass to creates the flower in vase picture, won't the shaker itself take too much of the space ?
